K&M Boer Goats is located on about 300 acres of land near Idaville, Indiana. We are very pleased to say that our home farm has been in our family for over 100 years. K&M Boer Goats is a family operation consisting of Andy & Sherry Stoll and our daughters Melinda and Kristy.
Our Boer goat journey began in 2005 with the purchase of four crossbred does to keep down weeds in a barn lot. Of those four only two survived the first winter and none of them remain in our herd.
Melinda showed goats in 4-H for the first time in 2007. It was a good experience, and we agreed as a family that we wanted show again. We also agreed that we wanted to get better goats. Also in 2007, we met some key people who have made a huge difference in our operation. We met Dr. Chris Rumsey our veterinarian at a 4-H meeting. Right away we knew we wanted to work with him. We are very blessed to have a vet who is very knowledgeable about goats and is a Boer goat breeder as well. Dr. Rumsey has been essential in maintaining a healthy goat herd.
We met Anita Messer at our 2007 4-H fair show. We were looking for a buck to purchase and overheard her talking about some bucks they had for sale. We went on to meet the rest of their family Philip, Levi and Raquel and to buy our first herd sire Scott Farms Potential Damage. Since then the Messer’s have become some of our closest friends. Many of our foundation does have come from them or are offspring of their goats. In January of 2009, they offered us a chance to buy a half interest in two of their herd bucks FHF Indian Outlaw and FHF RED Rock-E-Top. In June of 2009, FHF Indian Outlaw was named the JABGA National Grand Champion Buck. This allowed us to have National Champion genetics in our herd. We are very thankful to God for bringing our families together. Without Phillip, Anita and their family, we would not be where we are today.
Since 2007 we have continued to show in both 4-H and open shows. 2009 was Kristy’s first year in 4-H. We have enjoyed showing and have finished everywhere from dead last to Grand Champion. We have also continued to grow and improve our herd both through breeding and purchasing goats. We currently have 35 goats and when this year’s kids hit the ground we will have around 60.
In addition to the goats, Andy farms about 1900 acres of corn, soybeans, wheat and hay. He is also a seed dealer for Beck’s Hybrids. Off the farm, Andy is a volunteer firefighter/first responder with the Idaville Vol. Fire Dept. He is also the White County Farm Bureau board secretary, White County Ag Association Member (Fair Board), a Church Leader at Lifesong Church and a member of the White County 4-H goat committee.
Sherry works full-time on the farm helping with the goats and the crop farming. She also keeps the books for the farming operation. She leads the children’s ministries at Lifesong Church. Sherry is also the leader for the Making Strides 4-H club and is on the White County 4-H Goat Committee.
Melinda is a freshman at Twin Lakes High School. She plays flute in concert band and marching band. She is an active member of the Making Strides 4-H Club, White County 4-H Goat Club, and White County Jr. Leaders. She is also active in the youth group at Lifesong Church.
Kristy is a 6th grader at Roosevelt Middle School. She is active in the Making Strides 4-H Club and the White County 4-H Goat Club. She is also active in the youth group at Lifesong Church.
The most important thing we want you to know is that none of this would be possible without our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. If Christ is not your Savior we encourage you to seek a relationship with Him. It will make all the difference in your life.
“But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day who you will serve… But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15
